Mom Approved Turmeric Cheez-Its Recipe! (easy to make)

I am a huge fan of homemade.  I enjoy cooking and feeding my son something that I have made. I absolutely cringe anytime I take a shortcut and give him store bought snacks. His days of processed cheez-its are over.  These took no time at all to make and I know exactly what is in them.  Plus, they taste better!

The recipe is super simple and healthy in comparison to the boxed, processed cheez-its.  Especially when dusted with turmeric!  Turmeric is proven to kill cancer cells, improve overall health, and increase memory.  I use it in a lot of recipes and my family has no idea.

Homemade Turmeric Cheez-its from a health conscious mom! A healthy toddler snack!

It’s also good to try to avoid buying shredded cheese.  I know it is convenient, but there are anti-clumping agents like cellulose (powdered wood pulp) and calcium sulfate.  The FDA may approve these ingredients, but one should not trust the FDA.

Real food will always be better than manufactured additive or chemical laced food.

I am not going to stop ordering nachos at the game or discontinue eating out just to avoid these additives, but at home, I can do something about it.  This will lessen our family’s exposure to additives and chemicals – any little bit helps.  If I ate out regularly, then I may start looking at eating in the right establishments, but we rarely eat out.  We love to cook.

So, if you see me giving boxed cheez-its to my son it is because they are easier not because I want to (all processed food hate goes out the window when your son is hungry and it’s there).  However, they will not be in our grocery cart anymore.

Instructions
  1. Mix the shredded cheese, butter, flour, and salt until completely combined. You can use a hand mixer if you don't have a stand mixer - just remember to keep it on low.
  2. Add a tablespoon of water at a time until the dough forms.
  3. Wrap in plastic wrap and cool in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  5. Roll the dough out pretty thin (1/8 in). Cut into small, even squares. Then place on the baking sheet lined with either parchment paper or silpat.
  6. Poke with a fork for decoration. Then, lightly dust with turmeric and shaved sea salt.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes until the edges are browned slightly.
  8. Immediately remove the cheese crackers from the baking sheet to a cooling rack.
  9. Store for up to 1 week.
